Free Business Class
A practical, no-fluff workshop series for people running surf businesses. Operations, marketing, customer experience, and everything between. Always free for Surfyx operators.
What the class covers
The Surfyx Free Business Class is designed for real surf operators — not MBA-style theory. Each session is 45–60 minutes, practical, and focused on one problem most surf businesses actually face. Topics we rotate through include:
- Setting up on Surfyx. Profile, listings, pricing, photos, calendar, and getting your first bookings.
- Pricing lessons and rentals. How to price against competitors, seasonal adjustments, bundle discounts, and what actually drives conversions.
- Photos and listings that convert. What good listing photography looks like, what copy to write, and what to cut.
- Customer communication. Fast replies, managing expectations, handling late arrivals and cancellations, turning one-off students into regulars.
- Reviews and reputation. How to earn honest reviews, respond to negative ones, and build a profile that attracts the right customers.
- Seasonal operations. Shoulder-season strategies, staffing up and down, managing bookings across holidays.
- Compliance and safety. Insurance basics, waiver best practices, and how Surfyx's safety tools fit in.
Who it's for
Anyone running a surf business or seriously planning to start one. That includes:
- Surf school owners and managers.
- Independent instructors, especially those transitioning from working at a school to going solo.
- Surf shops and rental operators.
- Surf photographers and videographers.
- Board shapers and small surf brands.
- Anyone thinking about starting a surf business and wanting to learn from people doing it.
You don't need to be a Surfyx business to attend. That said, the class uses Surfyx as a working example in many places, so it's most useful if you're already familiar with the app.
Format and schedule
Classes run as live video workshops with time for questions at the end. We record sessions and make them available to registered Surfyx businesses afterward. We run them in rotating time zones so that surf businesses across different regions can join live.
Schedules and topics are announced by email to registered Surfyx businesses and on the Surfyx business dashboard. To be added to the announcements, contact us via the contact page.
Got a topic request?
If there's a specific problem you'd love a workshop on — or a guest you'd love us to bring in — tell us. We build the curriculum around what surf businesses actually need, not what sounds good on a landing page.
